Peter J. Karol

Peter is an associate at Bromberg & Sunstein and an active member of the firm’s IP litigation, trademark, and copyright practice groups.  Peter has litigated complex patent disputes across technological fields as diverse as telecommunications and sports equipment.  He has an equally broad range of experience in trademark litigation and portfolio management, with a practice spanning from speech recognition technologies to wines and distilled spirits, financial services to athletic cleats, and across many other industries.

Experience

• Successfully represented nationally known companies in high-stakes trademark litigation.
• Represented trademark licensor Hambrecht Wine Group d/b/a Belvedere Winery with respect to federal infringement litigation concerning its termination of a license for use of the Winery's BELVEDERE trademark with vodka. After the parties cross-moved for summary judgment, the Court held that Belvedere Winery validly terminated its license and that defendant was infringing the Winery's BELVEDERE trademark. The litigation settled shortly thereafter.
• Represented clients in patent disputes involving an array of varied technologies.
• Litigated trademark cases in the United States federal courts, and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
• Assisted in the management of the U.S. and international trademark portfolios of a wide variety of industry leaders.
• Advised clients engaged in international trademark oppositions before various administrative bodies in Europe, Australia and Asia, and been involved in a multitude of strategic negotiations over domestic and global trademark rights.
• Litigated false advertising cases in the United States federal courts.
• Represented a pioneering contemporary art gallery with regards to various business and copyright issues.

• Member of the Boston Bar Association and the Massachusetts Bar Association.
